Connection test
Run the Network Diagnostic Tool using a server at Argonne National Labs. After the test is finished, click on statistics, and record and turn in your:
- Upload speed (the "outbound test")
- Download speed (the "inbound test")
- Round trip time
- Percent of the time the connection is receiver limited
- Percent of the time the connection is network limited
Turn in a copy of the results along with answers to the following questions:
- What technology is used to connect your home to the Internet?
- What upload and download speeds does your ISP claim you should have?
- How does that compare to the measured transfer rates?
- What is the monthly cost of your connection?
- What is your monthly cost per 100 kbps?
The Network Diagnostic Tool is a Java applet. To run it, you must have downloaded and installed the Java runtime environment on your computer. If you get an error message saying you need Jave, you can find the download site and other information about Java applets at Java.com.
